What do I need to know about Airsoft weapons?
A friend of mine (Cal) showed me a website where I can buy WW2 material. Such as clothing, equipment etc. I found a website about WWII re-enactors that I am interested in applying for, but I’ve never fired an Airsoft rifle, or paintball gun even.
What do I need to know to get started?
Ok, I’ll start with basic safety rules:
1) Always assume the gun is loaded
2) Unless firing, always have the safety on. If you have to move between shots, the safety goes on.
3) Never point at anything you wouldn’t want to shoot. Don’t rely on the safety, think of it as a last resort.
4) Think about rebounds, these can still have enough power to blind.
General Maintenance:
1) Never leave the gun loaded, it’s bad for the springs. Always make sure the main spring is decompressed at end of firing (spring/electric only)
2) Lubricate occasionally. Don’t over lubricate. Don’t use anything petroleum based, it’ll eat away at your seals.
3) Guns don’t do well in water. Salt water will rust your gun.
4) Don’t overcharge batteries.
Other general advice:
1) When zeroing your sights, get a grouping on 3 or 4 shots before adjusting. Otherwise you’ll just “shot chase” and never get a true zero.
2) Make sure you hold gun properly. You’d be amazed how many people you see using the mag well as a foregrip.
3) If it’s reenactment, make sure you empty your gun before you go. Take no ammo with you. Also, you won’t want a gas gun, as they usually lock back on empty, so you can’t pretend fire anything except bolt action if it’s gas.
