Applying for a gun licence in the UK?
Hey 
So i’m 18 and I really want a gun licence. I have been wanting to learn to shoot for *years*, ever since I was a really little kid. My grandparents, uncles and cousins are all farmers, and also all hunters, and i’ve always wanted to be able to shoot and skin animals, to make food, clothing etc.
However, I would also like a handgun, since I am hoping to eventually go into the army or armed police force (APF ideally, but army experience can help you go places in those fields) and am currently studying criminology and criminal justice at Uni. Experience with shooting and holding a licence would put me in a far better position to get a job, and they’re damn tough to get.
I need info on gun licences, how much it’s likely to cost and how long it will take. I can get refferences – the two that spring to mind are a reverand and bank manager I know, both of whom hunt. I am 18 years old, female, clean record.

Right: first we have established that the sport is already carryed out within the family and there are also farms in the family, so technacaly im to belive you already have the shooting rights lined up.
First forget anything to do with handguns, the laws on them a baffling enough. Im to bellive the licence you wish to accuier is a shotgun or firearms certificate or perhaps both.
Since your over 18 your excempt from the laws on age restriction so thats 1 good thing.
Applications for the grant of a shotgun/firearms certificate must be made to the Chief Officer of Police, for the area in which you reside. They must be made on the prescribed Form Grant or renewle of ……………..shotgun or firearm
which is available from your local police station, the Firearms Licensing Office at your nearest constabulary HQ.
Should you wish to save £ and accuire both at ounce then a”coterminous” shotgun certificate allow the holder of a firearms certificate, to have his shotgun certificate expire on the same day. shotgun cert £50/////Firearms cert £50
Corterminous £60 firearms/shotgun.
As for the leanght of the procces depends on your constabulary, usualy up to 8 weeks,, refferances will be explained to you within the application,,, the 2 you have already suggested are good enough.
As you may already know , the apropriat measures must be then taken to store any of your guns (police approved gun cabbinet), im sure the family will make you awere of thous procedures and offer help other wise just ask
