Whats an army 21b Combat Engineer like.?
I saw the video on the army website and saw 21b combat engineer. It showed them blowing stuff up, like demolitions, urban warfare like infantry,and fixing things and building bases. Do they fight like infantry because Ive been told by some they do and some say they don’t fight just look for IEDs and get shot at. Also can they be airborne, or air assault, because I want to try and get in the 82nd airborne or 101st air assault or the 173rd airborne. So what Im asking can someone give a good description of 21b. I like CQB airsoft, blowing up stuff, and Im interested in planting traps.(I do it in airsoft).
I did ask, im just having a hard time deciding to chose infantry or combat engineer.
I was a Combat Engineer before when it was 12b.
They do demolitions (probably the coolest thing ever) and they are often used as Infantry in combat, but it is the Brigade Combat Team (BCT) Commanders call what mission they will have. Engineers are in Every BCT so they are in all of the units you listed. There are much more infantry guys in those units and they have more opportunity to go to schools (this depends on the unit).
The break down is Engineers will do more Demo then Infantry, every Soldier sets off C4 at Engineer AIT. You will probably never get to set a trap in the Army if you do 20 years. You will be trained on mines and traps but it takes damn near an act of congress to get approval to use one.
Infantry will do much more small unit tactics and CQB stuff but they don’t train on explosives as much as the Engineers (I don’t know how much they train on it, I’ve never been Infantry)
