LARPing Areas near Gainesville, GA?
I’m apart of a club in Gainesville State Collage, recently we have planed to do a Fallout LARP.
Now we are in the process of finding a place to host the LARP as the school grounds are to small for the amount of people we have. We need a place that is quite big and maybe slightly wooded and is ok for LARPers to conduct their activities. Note that most of us will have Airsoft guns so maybe a place that people won’t freak that there are people with guns running around in the woods. Also, were not looking for a Airsoft field.
Is there any place that would meet these standers and allow LARPers? Or is there any LARPing group of Georgia or Atlanta or Gainesville that could help?

While I am unaware of any airsoft LARPs operating in the area, you might find help in the local LARP communities as well as potential participants.
In terms of finding and using land, you should look up the local State Government codes that will have bearing on the use of air-soft equipment. The rationale is that if you go through the proper hoops, that you can run your event using state land set aside for recreational use. In California, we use camping grounds and other such land for Live Combat events; usually with the right insurance the Park Rangers and other authorities we deal with are okay with it. Projectile combat is a different beast, and requires additional footwork.

“Under Federal Law, airsoft guns are not classified as firearms and are legal for all ages. This is also the case for the laws in each state. However, in some major cities and population centers the definition of a firearm within their respected ordinances includes propulsion by spring or compressed air, *** thus making airsoft subject to applicable laws ***. For example, airsoft guns within the state of California can only be bought by a person above the age of 18. However, no laws indicate an age requirement to sell airsoft guns. The seller must only verify that the buyer is 18 or older.”
So, you would need to find out what special circumstances you would need to clear with local authorities to comply. You might not need anything, as not all States have laws like we have here in California. Either way, you need to disclose that you are using airsoft guns to anyone that you will use land from, or from any insurances that you might need to acquire.
Since you are doing a Fallout theme, you might be thinking about modding the guns to fit the scheme. While this has been done on some amazing LARPs in Europe, you need to be aware that making cosmetic changes might not be possible – local laws may prevent you from making such changes. Here is another clip from the same wiki page.
“A 6 mm minimum orange tip must be present on the barrel end of the airsoft gun (or clear/transparent body) to identify it as such for any commercial sales.[16] Once sold, local laws may vary on whether or not the orange tip must be kept. In many places no laws exist restricting one from removing or replacing the orange tip, but one should check the local laws before making such a modification.”
You didn’t mention what resources you had, financial or otherwise. I would assume that you are just a college group, and might have problems renting a site. We all have experienced this on some level (I used to run paintball themed events, DOOM style, with boffer weapons thrown into the mix up in the local mountains). Based on my experience with this, I will say that you are better off trying to do this legit, to get insurance, and find other avenues on how to raise funds you will need.
The first is to make this open to the public, LARPing and otherwise. A really great site that has loads of information, including legal waivers (which you can use as a basis but should have done on your own), weapon/ammo specs (nothing shooting over 350 fps) and costume ideas – based on a Zombie Apocalypse theme. http://www.operationplague.com/event.html
This should give you some ideas on how to make this a much larger event, and thus have paying players which will create the income you need to run it. Don’t forget, since you are a college group, you probably know people studying law, in graphics arts, website design, etc. to help you put this all together.
